About Royal Birkdale
Royal Birkdale Golf Club stands as one of the finest championship links in England. Founded in 1889, the club moved to its current site in 1894 and was awarded Royal status in 1951. The distinctive Art Deco clubhouse, built in 1935, remains an iconic landmark.
Championship Heritage
Royal Birkdale has hosted The Open Championship ten times from 1954 through 2017 and will host again in 2026. The club has also welcomed the Ryder Cup (1965, 1969), Walker Cup (1951), and Curtis Cup (1948), establishing itself as a regular venue for golf’s most prestigious events.
The Course
The par-72 championship course measures 6,690 yards and presents a classic links challenge. Unlike many links courses hidden in valleys, Birkdale offers clear views from each tee, with towering sand dunes framing flat and fair fairways. This distinctive layout allows players to see their target while facing the full examination of links golf.
