About Formby Ladies Golf Club
Formby Ladies Golf Club, founded on New Year’s Day 1896, holds a special place in British golf as one of the oldest independent women’s golf clubs in the world—and the only ladies-only club in England.
Historic Foundation
The men at Formby Golf Club established a 9-hole course for lady members in 1896. The current 18-hole links opened in 1908, with legendary architect Harry Colt constructing four new holes in 1930. The charming clubhouse, built in the early 1900s, retains its original character.
Championship Links
Set amidst pine trees and sand dunes characteristic of the Lancashire coast, Formby Ladies measures 5,356 yards from the red markers. The course features narrow heather-lined fairways, small well-protected greens, and strategically positioned pot bunkers. Ranked 80th in Golf World’s Top 100 Courses in England, the club hosts British Girls’ Home Internationals and British Seniors championships.
