About Royal Lytham & St Anne’s

Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club is one of the world’s premier links courses, known for its distinctive Victorian clubhouse and fearsome bunkering. Founded in 1886, the present course was constructed in 1897, with Royal title awarded by George V before hosting its first Open in 1926.

Championship History

Royal Lytham has hosted The Open Championship eleven times, most recently in 2012, and will host The Open once again in 2028. The club has also staged two Ryder Cups and numerous major tournaments, and will host the AIG Women’s Open in 2026. George Lowe fashioned the original links, with legendary architect Harry Colt making modifications between the wars.

The Course

The course is famous for its 167 bunkers strategically positioned to test every aspect of the game, and features the only par-3 opening hole on The Open circuit. Uniquely for a links, it sits more than a mile from the sea, surrounded by red brick housing with a live railway running alongside—a distinctive setting for championship golf.
